The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC) at CUHK launched its 12th Anniversary Exhibition last Saturday (17 January) with a special ceremony inaugurating the new MoCC Scholar. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr Lam Ching-choi, Chairman of the Council for Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Development; Professor Wong Kam-sing, Chairman of Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation; Dr Rebecca Lee, Founder of the Polar Museum Foundation; and Mr Toby Lau, the new MoCC Scholar. In his opening address, Professor Wong reviewed MoCC's achievements since its 2013 establishment, driving climate education through innovative approaches and accumulating near 2 million visitors. He positioned MoCC as a cradle for nurturing young climate leaders, actively identifying talents and supporting MoCC Ambassadors' participation in international exchanges such as COP30 held in Brazil last month. He emphasized, ‘Young people are a key driving force for change. I look forward to MoCC continuing to cultivate climate leaders with international vision through the "MoCC Ambassadorship" and "MoCC Scholar" flagship programmes, joining hands to address global challenges.’ Former MoCC Ambassador and Hong Kong Coordinator of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth, Mr Toby Lau, was officially inaugurated as the third MoCC Scholar. Deeply engaged in local and international climate advocacy, Mr Lau will partner closely with the museum to develop educational initiatives, enhance youth engagement, and link young leaders across regions through global platforms—infusing new momentum into Hong Kong’s sustainability efforts. During the ‘A Bold Climate Dialogue―The Climate Gap: Bridging Belief and Behaviour in Hong Kong’ session, officiating guests Dr Lam and Professor Wong joined youth representatives in an intergenerational discussion on accelerating Hong Kong’s sustainable development through policy, education, community engagement, and cross-sector collaboration. They shared experiences in public service and social innovation, urging young people to lead climate action and drive meaningful impact. Marking its 12th anniversary, the museum unveiled the themed exhibition 'Ignite the Future: A New Generation of Climate Action'. It showcases inspiring youth-led initiatives worldwide in climate science, sustainability, and public education, inviting visitors to engage with compelling stories and interactive experiences that inspire action toward a sustainable future.
