The Exhibit section

From the Editor

In the feature article in this issue of Oceans and Sky, we interview Patrick Lam Hak-chung, principal and teacher whose love of the environment, geography and education led him to organize an expedition of Asian secondary students to both the Arctic and Antarctic to promote environmental protection and public awareness of polar issues.

In our Some Solutions section, we look at how the Hong Kong Urban Climate Map, a Hong Kong solution for sustainable urban development, is being used to develop “breathing cities” on the Mainland to ensure free air flow through all areas of a city.

We also take a close look at the amazing Antarctic icefish, the only known family of fish with no red blood cells or hemoglobin. The unique evolutionary features that have allowed it to survive for millennia in the world’s coldest marine environment make it unable to adapt to the warming southern ocean.

There are many more to be found in this issue, such as Hong Kong students’ sharing of personal experience at our Green Leadership Camp and an infographic with projections about Hong Kong climate in the 21st century, along with winners from this year’s Eco Tour Photo Contest. And don’t miss out MoCC’s Third Anniversary Giveaway!

Last but not least, please join us to welcome a green new year.
