In celebration of Earth Day 2022 (22 April), CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office and SDSN Hong Kong will organize a series of environment- and resources-related activities that aim to raise public awareness of environmental protection and encourage action to save the Earth.

Screening of ‘Landscape of Rubbish’ LIN You-xue | in Mandarin with English subtitles Liina KLAUSS is a German artist. Having resided in Hong Kong, she collects and arranges the rubbish with its colour in the process of beach cleaning. Through her vision, the rubbish turns into an incredible art installation. CUHK Participates in Earth Hour The ‘Earth Hour’ will be held on 26 March (Saturday) to help raise public awareness on wetland habitats. Similar to previous years, CUHK will continue to participate in ‘Earth Hour’ by turning off the non-essential lights on campus. At 8:30pm that evening, the decorative flood lighting at a number of locations on campus will be turned off for an hour as a gesture of support. International Universities Climate Alliance - #ClimateTalks Student Forum The International Universities Climate Alliance (IUCA) is hosting the #ClimateTalks Student Forum in celebration of Earth Day 2022. This virtual event is designed for students, but open to all community members with an interest in advocating for climate resilient communities. Join us to explore how climate change is transforming the future of work and what skills the next generation will need to rise to the challenge. As part of IUCA, CUHK will be represented by our student Ms Hermia Chan in the panel discussion ‘Reimagining the future of climate resilient communities’. Hermia is also an MoCC Ambassador, an SDSN Youth representative and the co-founder of the Network of Environmental Student Societies (NESS). |

[SDG Forum Series 2021-22] Save the polar bears … only? —Impacts of a Changing Cryosphere In the past few decades, the cryosphere has been melting at an unprecedented rate. Not only does the melting in the Polar Regions threaten the existence of ice-dependent species, it also has significant impacts on water supply, food production, infrastructure and the risk of floods and droughts. Co-organized by CUHK’s Office of University General Education and the Hong Kong Chapter of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN Hong Kong), the speakers will present the latest scientific findings on the changing cryosphere, and share an experience of leading the expedition to the Polar Regions and highlight the importance of providing alternative learning experiences for local students to foster their sense of responsibility to society and the environment. |
